Dogville is no different from von Trier's earlier parables of vulnerability and brutality. And like those works, it is the staggering, infuriating work of a visionary filmmaker.. Its narrative continuity is so sketchy and the screenplay so haphazard that the movie doesn't add up to more than trash, seasoned with pretentious religiosity.. Even at three hours, Dogville seldom bores.. [Knight] fills his story with too many contrivances - not to mention narrative strands .... It's a tough sit throug...
